Don’t.

“Don’t get too comfortable. Don’t swim in the happiness. Don’t revel in the joy. Don’t bask in the light; the darkness is right around the corner, little lady.”

Don’t.

“Don’t make that new house your ‘forever home’ just yet. Watch how I can penetrate it’s walls, wreck it at my whim. Watch me suck away the savings you had in hopes of a happy, full life as a family. Don’t settle in, little lady.”

Don’t.

“Don’t forget that those you love, even the tiny life growing inside you, can be taken away at any moment. Don’t want to believe me, little lady? Watch me take her away at only 69. Watch me end his life when everyone thought he had decades left. Then, watch & feel me nearly snatch the breath from the newest one dearest to you.”

Don’t.

“Don’t think your sweet children are safe. Don’t foolishly think a diagnosis would be crushing. Watch me show you what fear really is, little lady. Feel the petrifying reality that you don’t know how long your angel will live. Taste the bile rising from your stomach as you wake up every day not knowing what he’ll be able to do in this life. Live in that darkness, and don’t ask me to let you out.”

Don’t.

“Don’t harbor hope. Don’t think that all of the ‘good work’ you have done can heal you. Don’t believe that the numerous avenues you have devotedly gone down will lead to recovery of any kind. Don’t think the pain can’t get worse; the worst is yet to come, little lady.”

Don’t.

“Don’t make plans. Don’t think good things must be coming your way; I’ll usher you deeper in to the darkness”

Don’t.

“Don’t hope for the sun. The pain will consume you. The trauma will suffocate you. The memories won’t be exorcised. Don’t believe you are fixable. Don’t forget that the clouds & the rain are where you belong.”

Don’t.

“Don’t think you can live life to the fullest.”
